Americans view private sector workers more favorably than public sector workers

As in Figure 1, favorable views are defined as index scores above 4, with all items rated on 7-point scales. Figure 2 displays the proportion of respondents who rated public or private sector employees favorably, such that remaining respondents (not shown) rated employees as either unfavorable or neutral. Neutral ratings for public sector employees account for 6% (warmth), 5% (competence), 7% (integrity), and 22% (innovation) of respondents; corresponding figures for private sector workers are 16%, 7%, 11%, and 13%.
